Norton Racing- Team Members (2)

Franzi "Fastback" Edlfurtner is the star of the team. Nobody is as fast as he is, and nobody can bake "Zopf" as well as he does! The Race Organizers turn him down, unless he promises to bring one of his unapproachable "Zoepfe" for them. (Explanation for readers from abroad: a "Zopf" is a kind of sweet bread, made with yeast, which is perfect at a race track for breakfast).

Franzi likes to share his considerable experience with the younger team members (in this case Tim S.): "If you fall off first in the lefthander, then in the righthander, your motorcycle looks nicely balanced".
However, the reason for his unbelievable speeds was only recently unveiled:

Franz is superhero "Backman", who, as we all know, saves the world from bad taste with his unbelievably good cakes and breads!

Fortunately, Franzis competitors on the race track have not yet heard about it- as they would, no doubt, otherwise decline to compete with our superhero, and Franzi would be denied the fun of whipping them all on his Commando!

Teamboss Joachim "Joe" Seiferts days of glory are long gone. After he started his track carrer, rather belatedly, on the 16H in Most in 1993, and managed the 163th fastest lap time of 163 competitors, he later became the champion of the pre-war class on his Manx500 Garden Gate (ex-Albert Moule, ex-Franz Vaasen). Putting, rather tongue-in-cheek, the #1 plate on the bike from the very start, he finally earned it in 1996. Legendary question put to mechanic Rudi in Poznan/Poland in the last lap of a race as the field thunders past: "Where is Seifert, has he broken down?" "No, he has already finished!"

(Hungaroring ca.1995, before the invention of colour photography)

Moving on to the faster classes on the Commando and the ex-Rudi Glaeser short stroke Manx has not become him at all (he is dead scared at speeds in excess of 100mph!).He now trundles around the course somewhere in mid-field. Though the races have become far more interesting, as the number of fights and adversaries has increased, the sucesses of yesteryear were rather nice. All the old man can do now is wait for the younger team members to save the family honour ...............

Latest team member is Michael "Micki" Knoechner. As a friend of Katrin "Maunzi" Seifert he wormed into the team and, unfortunately, could not be gotten rid off ever since. He did recently admit to his true intentions and bought himself a Commando for the road. Whilst in previous meetings he preferred to ride "works" bikes, he can be seen here riding his own Commando at Pannoniaring 2005.

He is, however, very helpful and willing, and does not shy back from watching the teamchief doing the maintenance on the various works bikes as well as his (Michis) own. Unless he is distracted by female spectators, that is!
