The Hyde
Hornet Racer was the project of Norman Hyde and
Lester Harris (of Harris chassis fame). The
bike was refined by Steve
Campbell over three seasons in the British SOS
Championship. It was raced by Alan Jefferies in
the Isle of Man (see picture), setting fastest
time in training, but with a d.n.f. in the race. The
motorcycle is very neutral to ride, has an ideal
centre of gravity, that feels safe no
matter if the front end or the rear end slides (the
author has experienced both without falling
off), so it is ideal for even a novice rider,
giving a lot of fun. Aircooled Rotax 4-stroke
single, 598ccm/about 75bhp.
